Female Teachers to Receive Free Laptop From Union
In an effort to close the digital divide, the Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) has benefited greatly from a relationship that will provide computers to its members.
A strategic cooperation between the House of Procurement (HOP) and Equity Bank, the financier, has made this feasible.
The agreement was disclosed on August 4 and 5, 2022, at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, during the KEWOTA-organized 5th Annual Delegates Conference.
The programme, spearheaded by KEWOTA CEO Benta Opande and HOP CEO Benard Odote, aims to solve the difficulties female instructors have adopting digital technologies, especially those who balance being moms and teachers.
“KewOTA and HOP have joined forces in recognition of the transformative potential of technology in education to provide female teachers with the tools they need to successfully navigate the digital landscape,” said Opande.

KEWOTA officials Opande, who were optimistic about the partnership, emphasised that giving the instructors laptops adds a lot of value to their professional lives.
Over 150 KICD-approved books, all of which are on the laptops, are fully loaded.
She emphasised the significance of providing female educators with the tools they need to succeed in a classroom that is becoming increasingly digital and in support of President Ruto’s goal.
Opande also disclosed that KEWOTA has been collaborating closely with financial organisations like Equity Bank to provide funding choices for its members in order to secure the sustainability of the Initiative.
Kadri Humal Ayal, a representative of the Estonian government who was also present at the ceremony, expressed her nation’s willingness to keep supporting Kenyan teachers online.
“We stopped using paper a few years ago, and we want to help others navigate the new minefield that is the digital world.”She stated
The CEO of a company named House of Procurement (HOP), Benard Odote, emphasised the strategic justification for selecting KEWOTA as a partner.
“We chose KEWOTA because of their large network of women and dedication to improving the situation of female teachers in Kenya.
When implementing digital tools, many female teachers confront particular difficulties, especially in light of their motherhood obligations.
Our collaboration seeks to find the highest-quality laptops at competitive prices while also making sure that no one benefits unfairly. She spoke.
The partnership between KEWOTA and HOP was hailed as a crucial step towards empowering female instructors and fostering digital literacy among educators.
“This partnership not only represents the dedication of both organisations to their respective missions, but it also shows their commitment to combining strengths for the benefit of society,” continued Opande.
Opande asserted that since their employer, the Teachers Service Commission, is technologically adept, teachers must accept it.
She claimed that thanks to numerous digital platforms, teachers can now make a sizable income.
Opande previously stated that female genital mutilation was still a significant issue for young girls in various regions of the nation.
She specifically mentioned places the official stated they planned to visit, including Kuria and Laikipia.
Opande emphasised that KEWOTA is an association of teachers rather than a union.
