TSC Recruit a Team To Monitor Teachers’ Performance In Schools

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has launched a proposal to visit schools to assess, among other things, the work performance of instructors.

The TSC Quality Assurance and Standard Officers (QASO), TSC County and Sub County officers will travel to different schools to evaluate the calibre of the instructors’ work.

The exercise will begin right after the half-term break and last until it is through, according to a notification from many TSC County Directors.

The Commission team will examine students’ and teachers’ readiness for class, including whether teachers are preparing lesson plans and schemes of work, recording attendance, marking students’ assignments, and preparing teaching aids.

Additionally, they will assess the success and difficulties instructors are having with TPAD (Teacher Performance and Appraisal Development) in the classroom.

To complete its purpose, TSC is awaiting funding. In a report it sent to a Parliament committee, the Commission had requested Sh300 million to pay for field services in counties and sub-counties.

Field services are essential to the execution of Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development, according to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia.

The services are crucial for Performance Contract implementation and oversight as mandated by section 11(c) of the TSC Act 2012, according to Macharia’s report to the Education Committee.

They are important to the prompt resolution of ongoing disciplinary matters and the implementation of teaching standards. For the programming and activities at the county and subcounty levels, the Commission needs Sh300 million, according to Macharia.

Using the TPAD system 2, TSC is able to assess teachers’ performance in accordance with the benchmarks established by the organisation.

In order to increase teachers’ effectiveness and, in turn, students’ academic success, the system went into full operation in 2016.

Seven teaching standards—professional knowledge and application, time management, creativity and innovation in the classroom, learner protection, safety, discipline and teacher behaviour, and promotion of co-curricular activities—are used by TPAD to evaluate the calibre and effectiveness of instructors.
