According to Kenya’s Teachers Service Commission (TSC), nearly 16,000 teachers were promoted this year based on career progression norms and other factors such as regional balance, gender equity, and affirmative action for Arid and Semi-Arid Lands counties.
The promoted teachers will fill positions for Deputy Principals I and II, Senior Master IV and Head Teachers and Deputy Head Teachers II in secondary schools, as well as Head Teachers and Deputy Head Teachers II in primary schools.
The advancements were dispersed fairly among the regions, with Kiambu County having the most promoted teachers, followed by Kisii and Kakamega.

Due to a scarcity of Deputy School Heads, Senior Teachers, and Masters, the Commission has established standards for the amount of administrators schools should have.
Additionally, teachers who have previously participated in acting roles will be given preference in promotions.
While appearing before the Senate Cohesion Committee, the TSC boss drafted a report regarding the medical benefits, jobs, promotions, and transfers of the teachers who were generating difficulties.
According to the TSC, 6,214 instructors will advance one level and 5,436 will advance two levels, from grade B5 (Primary Teacher I) to grade C1 (Primary Teacher II).

According to Dr. Macharia’s report, the commission will promote a total of 11,258 teachers in the common cadre promotions for the fiscal year 2022-2023, in accordance with Regulation 74 of the CORT (Code of Regulations for Teachers), as long as the budget permits it.
PROMOTION CATEGORIES FOR TEACHERS
The next round of TSC promotion interviews will result in the promotion of 551 instructors.
According to the data, Kakamega has the most promotion slots. 36 people will be transferred from C1 to C2, 288 people will be transferred from C1 to C5, and 227 people will be transferred from C1 to C5.
Garissa County is relocating 21 teachers from B5 to C1, C1 to C2, and C2 to C3.
As a result, the commission intends to promote 10.021 more teachers through affirmative action in teacher shortage areas and 13.717 more teachers through competitive promotion during the fiscal year.
However, the commission stated that it has identified 7,282 primary school teachers who were willing to transfer to junior secondary schools (JSS).
A diploma in education and a bachelor’s degree in education are required, as well as a KCSE or comparable mean score of C+. a minimum C+ grade and at least 8 units in each of the two teaching classes (plus).
According to Dr. Macharia, the commission has promoted and relocated primary school teachers to high schools to compensate for a teacher shortage there.
