Mudavadi Fires Back at Gachagua: “Stop Mourning, No One’s Listening to You Anymore”

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his continued attacks on the Kenya Kwanza Government.

On Monday, January 20, Mudavadi urged Gachagua to stop misleading Kenyans and let go of the past, especially regarding his impeachment. Mudavadi pointed out that Gachagua is legally barred from holding any public office due to the impeachment and should now focus on moving forward.

“We should not waste time; it’s time to move on. If someone is mourning, they have already finished, and the mourning period is over. Kenya needs to move forward. We can’t keep listening to complaints every day,” Mudavadi said.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary also warned Kenyans not to fall for Gachagua’s words, claiming that the former Deputy President had lost his influence after being removed from office.

Mudavadi’s comments came after Gachagua accused President William Ruto of playing a role in his downfall, claiming that Ruto scripted some of the speeches that hurt his reputation and led to his impeachment.

On Sunday, Gachagua spoke out, alleging that Ruto is heavily involved in the political affairs of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and personally writes speeches for political leaders, including himself.

“When MPs speak, it’s Ruto’s instructions. I used to receive his messages telling me what to say. I followed his instructions for three days but realized he was trying to make me lose favor with the people. On the issue of shareholding, he was the one who told me to tell Kenyans that this government is about shares,” Gachagua claimed.

Since his impeachment, Gachagua has been outspoken in criticizing the Kenya Kwanza government, raising concerns about the government’s accountability and responsibility. He has also questioned the administration’s handling of issues such as the rising cases of abductions, calling on Ruto to ensure greater security and to resolve these cases.

Gachagua was removed from office as Deputy President on October 17, 2023, after the Senate upheld the National Assembly’s decision to impeach him. A total of 54 senators voted in favor of his removal for gross constitutional violations, while 13 senators voted against it.

As per the law, Gachagua is no longer eligible to hold any elected position following his impeachment.
