MoE to Determine Dress Code of Learners in Schools
The Ministry of Education (MoE) should be in charge of developing a comprehensive regulatory framework regulating dress code across all educational levels, according to a proposal made by the Presidential Working Group on Education Reforms (PWGER).
According to a report given to President Ruto by the committee chaired by Professor Munavu, school uniforms have become an expensive burden for parents as a result of collusion between suppliers and school administrations.
Parents are forced by the cartel to purchase uniforms from particular vendors that the school administration has endorsed.
Moses Kuria, the Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Industry, forbade schools from holding uniform sales earlier this year.
Kuria harshly criticised schools for working with uniform retailers and tailors to make money off of parents.
He emphasised that educators should give the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and intellectual pursuits first priority.

The Ministry of Education has been very clear that our schools have no business selling uniforms; instead, Kuria said, instructors should be concentrating on academics, assisting kids with the transition to CBC, and other goals the Ministry has established.
He made the statement in response to complaints from parents who said that schools had turned the uniform industry into a lucrative business for their own benefit.
The parents complained that having to buy uniforms only from specific businesses led to higher prices than at other uniform retailers.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba submitted a proposal in March to make school uniforms accessible for all kids in response to these worries.
She continued, “Some schools require parents to deposit uniform funds into particular school accounts, a requirement that excludes many children whose parents cannot afford.”
The lawmaker emphasised that children at both public and private institutions should have access to school uniforms.
She added that the rising price of uniforms has started to put a strain on the budgets of regular people.
