Manchester United Poised to Secure Signature of Player with Greater Red Devils Appearances than Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United are nearing an agreement to permanently re-sign defender Jonny Evans.
In mid-July, Jonny Evans began training with Manchester United to stay in shape before being included in preseason games because Erik ten Hag desired additional defensive coverage.
The Belfast Telegraph reports that Manchester United are now prepared to offer Jonny Evans a one-year contract.
The report asserts:
“Ten Hag has been impressed by Evans’ leadership and ability to play out from the back and he is wary of a lack of defensive cover. United insiders are now predicting a longer deal for Evans after he exceeded expectations during pre-season.”

Jonny Evans participated in exhibition matches against Lyon, Wrexham, and Borussia Dortmund.
Raphael Varane missed the match against Dortmund due to a minor injury and has a less-than-perfect fitness record.
Harry Maguire’s future is uncertain, as he has gone from captain and automatic starter to fourth-best defender – at best. Last week, according to Sky Sports, West Ham reportedly made an offer for him.
If Maguire is sold, Evans could fill in seamlessly, allowing United to use the funds from his sale in other areas rather than on a new defender.
As a temporary remedy, it is effective. Next summer, a longer-term defense solution may be a top priority. If Erik ten Hag believes Evans can be useful, the manager has already acquired sufficient trust.

Prior to being sold by Louis van Gaal in 2015, Jonny Evans played for Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson, making his debut in 2007.
Evans has made 198 competitive appearances for the club and now has a remote chance to surpass the 200 mark.
He is currently ranked 111th all-time among Manchester United players in terms of appearances. With 359 appearances, Marcus Rashford has the most among active players.
He has more than Bruno Fernandes and would be eighth on the team’s current scoring list.
