Chelsea’s Pursuit Intensifies for 24-Year-Old Defensive Midfielder
As Mauricio Pochettino seeks to enhance Chelsea’s central positions, Tyler Adams could be added to the Blues’ midfielder shortlist.
According to The Times, Chelsea’s midfield targets Tyler Adams ahead of the upcoming season.
The Leeds United star’s contract contains a relegation clause, as clubs could make a move in the closing phases of this transfer window.
Mauricio Pochettino reaffirmed the need to bolster Chelsea’s central positions, indicating that the club’s midfield woes will persist.
This summer, Moises Caicedo has been Chelsea’s primary target, but Brighton has thus far rejected at least three proposals, the most recent of which was for £80 million.
The diminishing window has prompted them to consider alternatives, but they continue to insist on the Ecuadorian.
According to some reports, Caicedo could force a move-through, but given his history with Brighton, this seems unlikely.
In addition to Caicedo, Chelsea intends to add more midfielders to bolster their depth.
Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher are the only two senior midfielders available to start, although Andrey Santos performed admirably during preseason.

They also signed midfielder Lesley Uguchukwu from Rennes, but he will presumably join Strasbourg on loan.
Chelsea has reportedly designated Leeds United’s Tyler Adams as a possible replacement for Caicedo, whose transfer is nowhere near completion.
The relegation clause in the USNMT captain’s Leeds contract could enable him to leave on the cheap.
The specifics are under secrecy, but Chelsea can aggressively pursue the American from Yorkshire.
In addition to Tyler, they have Edson Alvarez on their roster.
Chelsea desired the Mexican last summer, but Ajax refused a transfer because they still had time to locate a replacement.
The midfielder’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund has already fallen through, but he remains on West Ham’s shortlist.
In the meantime, Chelsea has also contemplated stealing the Romeo Lavia deal from Liverpool.
He, too, has a high price tag, and the Blues have yet to demonstrate serious pursuit. Adams, a 24-year-old defensive midfielder, has Premier League experience that could benefit the London club.
He will add significant depth to their position, which appears scant at present.
The 24-year-old defensive midfielder will also be available at a price acceptable to Chelsea, making him a strong candidate to arrive at Stamford Bridge later this window.
