I am finding it so, so tough” – Another Chelsea player reveals the harsh impact of Pochettino’s…
Due to injuries at the defense, new manager Mauricio Pochettino has given Bashir Humphreys a significant amount of preseason playing time, and he has performed admirably.
His interview on the Chelsea website reveals that it’s not just the contests that have been difficult, but also training:
“This is the first pre-season I have done fully, for one reason or another. I always heard things about what pre-season was like, like you do this and that. But this is it,”
On the club’s official website are quotations from Humpreys.
“In terms of getting bullied in training everyday, it is a mental challenge,’ he said. ‘Especially within the group, to keep that mentality strong because no one really wants to do it. It isn’t stimulating, it’s not fun.
“Like hurt ball [also known as murder ball] is so hard, harder than the running we’re doing but it is more fun and stimulating. Yesterday, doing box-to-box running, it was a mental challenge. In that way, this is real. I am finding it so, so tough.”
We don’t want anyone to get hurt, and we’re sure this is being exaggerated a bit for the media, but we must admit that this type of thing has a powerful effect on us.
Last season, we observed players who appeared far too comfortable and pitifully unhealthy; given their renowned expertise in fitness and sport science, the least we can expect from the new coaching staff is to whip them into shape.
Bash will learn a great deal on this tour, and while he will likely go out on loan after the tour concludes, it appears that he will be ready for the upcoming season at whichever club he joins.
