Promising Man City Youngster Shea Charles Set to Join Southampton in £11m Transfer

This week, Mail Sport’s Transfer Confidential disclosed that Southampton had targeted Charles as they prepared to lose Liverpool targets James Ward-Prowse and Romeo Lavia.
Charles, 19 years old, is a product of City’s academy and has followed Lavia through the club’s U21s.
Charles has impressed with his maturity and quality of play while representing Northern Ireland on the international stage.
Consequently, several clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, Schalke, Leicester, and Leeds United, are monitoring his development and contemplating bids.

However, Southampton director of football operations Jason Wilcox has used his knowledge and relationship with City to place his new club in pole position, and a deal is expected to be finalized this weekend, pending a medical.
As they did last year with Lavia, City will include a sell-on and buy-back provision in the contract for Charles.
Liverpool and Chelsea are notably interested in Belgian forward Lavia, while Arsenal and Manchester United have also discussed a move.
West Ham and Fulham, among others, are interested in Ward-Prowse, but no proposals have been received as of yet. Southampton, however, anticipates activity in the near future.
Ward-Prowse is valued at $40 million by Southampton, but suitors expect to acquire him for nearly half that amount.
Wilcox has ensured that he has a promising midfielder to replace any departures by signing Charles.
Meanwhile, Southampton has signed 19-year-old goalkeeper Josh McNamara from Manchester City on a two-year contract. The 20-year-old City winger Morgan Rogers is joining Middlesbrough.
