Joao Cancelo’s replacement lands a whopping 400% pay rise at Man City
Rico Lewis is only 18, but the adage “if you’re good enough, you’re old enough” applies to him, and he is now the obvious choice to sign a lucrative new contract with Manchester City.
Manchester City will sign adolescent sensation Rico Lewis to a lucrative new contract.
This season, the 18-year-old Etihad defender will receive a fivefold salary raise for his stunning debut with the first squad.
When Lewis signs the enhanced five-year contract on the table, it is estimated that his weekly pay will increase from £5,000 to $25,000.
This 400% compensation raise demonstrates the significance of the teenage right-fast back’s emergence for Pep Guardiola’s English champions.
Lewis, who was born in Manchester and joined City at the age of eight, has made 15 appearances this season, including eight in the Premier League.

In November, the England Under-19s international made his Champions League debut with a goal in a 3-1 victory over Sevilla, becoming the club’s youngest scorer in the tournament.
Since then, Lewis has continued to impress, and Guardiola frequently prefers him above Kyle Walker and the now-departed Joao Cancelo. In fact, his repeated selection looks to have helped to Cancelo’s January departure to Bayern Munich.
The German giants have grabbed the Portuguese star on loan until the end of the season, with the intention of making the deal permanent in the summer for £60 million. Yet Cancelo, at 28 years old, was judged irreplaceable not too long ago, prior to Lewis’ debut in 2022-23.
The fact that Guardiola approved Cancelo’s exit is indicative of how highly he regards Lewis. The Spaniard believes the academy graduate is ideal for the wing-back position, which involves floating center midfielder duties in attack and is key to the manner he like City to play.
