Erik ten Hag insists Alejandro Garnacho ‘must accept’ substitution decision after Manchester United beat Crystal Palace
Erik ten Hag feels that Alejandro Garnacho‘must accept’ being substituted in Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty kick in the seventh minute, and Marcus Rashford added a second goal in the second half to extend United’s lead at Old Trafford.
VAR monitored Casemiro grabbing Will Hughes by the throat during a skirmish between both teams and reduced Ten Hag’s squad to ten men with 20 minutes remaining.
Jeffrey Schlupp scored a consolation goal for Crystal Palace, but Manchester United were able to cling on for the victory that propelled them to third place in the Premier League rankings.
Meanwhile, Garnacho entered the game as a substitute, replacing Wout Weghorst in the 59th minute. However, the Argentine appeared frustrated on United’s bench after he was replaced by Harry Maguire in the 87th minute as Ten Hag’s team looked to seal the victory.
Nevertheless, Ten Hag thinks that Garnacho must acknowledge that the action was “in the best interests of the squad.”
Ten Hag said to MUTV following United’s victory, “First we had to watch how they adjusted, then we had to anticipate and see how we could close, how to be compact, how to close the gaps, how to stay away from our goal but still have an attacking threat.”

“I believe we have to make a change. It is not always pleasant to remove a player who was substituted in, but it is in the best interests of the team, and the player must accept it.
Ten Hag is also of the opinion that Casemiro was unfairly singled out for his red card and has criticized VAR’s lack of consistency.
Ten Hag stated, “Of course, you must control your emotions, but it’s really tough in such situations.”
“I watched two teams fighting, I saw two teams in which multiple players crossed the line and one guy was sent off.” In my opinion, that is not correct.
Schlupp takes a significant risk by committing this foul; Anthony could have been seriously injured by being pushed past the goal line.
Then everyone, even Crystal Palace and Manchester United players, reacted.
There was a player that performed even worse than Casemiro. With Casemiro, you have to freeze the moment because he crossed the line, but Ayew unquestionably [should have been ejected].
You must be consistent when using VAR. The foul that cost us Christian Eriksen last week was not reviewed by VAR. At Crystal Palace, [Jean-Philippe] Mateta elbowed [Lisandro] Martinez, who has been running with two stitches in his eyebrow for the past two weeks with no intervention from VAR; this is not acceptable.’
