Chelsea take full advantage of Premier League rules to register every new signing

Chelsea utilizes Premier League regulations to register every new signing.

As per UEFA regulations, Chelsea may only register three new players for the knockout stages of the Champions League, yet we have acquired around three times as many in the previous month. However, we have no such worries in the Premier League.

And whereas in Europe the registration rules for young players (under 21) are somewhat stricter, in the Premier League there are no constraints on the number or, most importantly, the homegrown status of young players who can be enrolled (in addition to the 17+8 rule).

Oh no, the Anti-Loophole Brigade has arrived!

So, as reported on the Premier League’s website today, Chelsea have registered all of their players, with two non-native spaces to spare, and even Hakim Ziyech! We adore you Hakim! How did Paris fare?

Why Chelsea must qualify for the Champions League after being put on UEFA’s “watchlist”

Next season, Chelsea is under pressure to qualify for the Champions League, either by finishing in the top four of the Premier League or by winning UEFA’s highest club competition.

After Chelsea spent over £300 million during the January transfer window, Graham Potter is under considerable pressure to qualify for the Champions League next season. The Blues sit 10 points behind fourth place in the Premier League, and there is still plenty to play for in UEFA’s best club competition.

However, with the signing of Enzo Fernandez on transfer deadline day, the west London club’s total spending for the season surpassed over half a billion pounds just months after being placed on UEFA’s “watchlist.” In September, the financial watchdog said that Chelsea, along with 19 other clubs, had avoided punishment owing to Covid-related exemption.

As a result, the expenditures of those clubs would be “closely scrutinized.” Regardless, Todd Boehly has continued to spend lavishly, and the Blues are now under pressure to make ends meet.

According to financial analysts, the west Londoners must accomplish two goals to considerably lower the risk of violating FFP regulations. One of which is to qualify for the Champions League; if Chelsea fails to do so, it might lose at least £90 million in television revenue.

The alternative is to capitalize on homegrown talent, which would be reported as a profit without a corresponding loss on the books. Kieran Maguire, a finance analyst, told The Times, “Chelsea’s pay cost in 2021 was £333 million, and that was before the club invested in a multitude of players with long-term contracts who are likely also extremely highly compensated.” I believe that if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season, they will be closely monitored by Uefa. The factor that is most likely to save Chelsea is the fact that they have academy-grown players who count as zero cost in FFP calculations and might be sold for large sums.

“The sale of players such as Callum Hudson-Odoi, Conor Gallagher, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek may yield close to £100 million. Under the revised version of Uefa’s financial sustainability standards, this would be pure profit, and this more than anything else could prove to be Chelsea’s salvation in the future.”

While Chelsea are being’monitored,’ UEFA has lately implemented’squad cost control,’ according to The Times. The report states, “Clubs will initially be limited to spending no more than 90 percent of their annual revenue on player wages, transfers, and agent fees. Separately, clubs’ losses over the previous three seasons would be capped at €60 million.”
