Prof. George Magoha has of Friday 8th, 2021 said that 97% of learners have reported to schools countrywide. He said this while inspecting St. Paul’s Ombaka Secondary School in Nyando area in Kisumu County.
The school has been submerged by floods following the overflow of River Nyando. He also assessed learning and environmental at Ugwe Primary school hosting Kandaria Mixed Primary school which was too flooded.
Further Magoha has affirmed that Primary and Secondary Schools have received a total of 19billion under Free Primary and free day secondary education program. He said while inspecting resumption of learning at Bungoma DEB Primary School that has a population of 3,700 pupils.
Many boys missing school this week
Meanwhile Principal Secretarys Amb. Simon Nabukwesi, Alfred Rotich and Nelson Marwa visited schools in Uasin Gishu County to monitor the schools reopening progress. The team led by PS Rotich emphasized strict adherence to covid-19 protocols by learner’s to avoid infections.
Amb. Simon Nabukwesi expressed concern that many boys had not returned to school this week. He asked school Heads to liaise with the relevant authorities to establish where the missing learners were.
PS for Basic Education Belio Kipsang paid a courtesy to Bomet County Commissioner, Ms Susan Waweru office, ahead of assessing resumption of learning in schools in the area.
Kipsang headed to Tenwek boys secondary school where he expressed satisfaction with the use of funds. The school Administration is constructing classrooms using infrastructure funds issued by the Ministry of Education.
Don’t Send Children Home
He advised schools to use soap for handwashing instead of sanitisers saying it is cheaper and safe. He also advised teachers to wear face masks properly as a model for students.
Kipsang advised Sub County Directors of Education to ensure schools avoid sending home for fees, saying that they might pose risks to others when they return to school. He said schools should structure to enforce fee payments.
While defending the action by the ministry to ban parents and media from visiting schools, Kipsang said the government has not targeted any group of people from accessing schools. He said the restrictions apply to everybody being an examinations term.
This comes even as the Director-General, Mr Elyas Abdi officiated the official launch of The back to school campaign in Wajir this morning.
