The government has taken measures to enhance the security of national examination centers and maintain the credibility of exams by deploying a substantial force of over 60,000 security personnel across the country. This mobilized security team consists of officers from the National Police Service (NPS) and National Government Administration Officials (NGAOs).

Their primary responsibility is to manage examination containers and ensure the safety of students, teachers, and supervisors during the entire duration of national exams, which include the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE), the Kenya Certificate of Primary Examinations (KCPE), and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

Raymond Omollo, the Interior Principal Secretary, has revealed that the government has established Command and Communication centers at both the national and regional levels to closely monitor and supervise the examination process for a seamless operation. The Ministry of Interior will play a crucial role in supporting the Ministry of Education in terms of coordination, logistics, and providing round-the-clock security during the examination period.

To prevent potential exam leakages, all examination containers will be located at NGAO offices and will be guarded by security personnel 24/7. PS Omollo issued a stern warning against exam impersonation, emphasizing that such actions will face legal consequences.

He also emphasized a ban on mobile phones within the vicinity of examination centers and discouraged the use of social media platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal for distributing fake exam materials, stating that this is against the law.

The government has made preparations to address security threats during the examination period, with County Security and Intelligence Committees (CSIC) and Sub-County Security and Intelligence Committees (SCSIC) developing appropriate contingency and emergency response plans. Additionally, contingency plans have been set up to handle natural disasters such as flooding, including the identification of evacuation centers that can serve as alternative examination centers.

Ground and aerial support will be available for areas that may become inaccessible due to heavy rains, and disaster committees will closely monitor roads, electricity, and buildings at examination centers throughout the examination period.

These extensive security measures have been put in place as over 3.5 million candidates are set to sit for this year’s exams, scheduled to run from October 30 to November 24. Among them, 1.4 million are KCPE candidates, 1.2 million are KAPSEA candidates, and 903,260 will take the KCSE exams.
