56,000 teachers set for CBC retraining, TSC says
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in Kenya has taken a proactive approach in ensuring that the 56,000 teachers recruited this year are fully prepared to meet the demands of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). This comprehensive retraining initiative is focused on elevating teachers’ professional expertise and skills, with the ultimate goal of enhancing students’ learning outcomes.
The retraining program is set to span eight days, commencing on October 6 and concluding on October 13, 2023.
Nancy Macharia, the dedicated Chief Executive Officer of TSC, has applauded the commitment of the teaching community actively participating in this crucial retooling process. During the celebration of World Teachers’ Day at the prestigious Kenya School of Government in Nairobi, she underscored the paramount importance of adhering to the CBC principles in daily teaching activities.
She expressed profound gratitude for the unwavering dedication exhibited by pre-primary and primary school teachers in embracing the CBC curriculum, which plays a pivotal role in imparting essential core competencies and values to Kenyan learners.

Furthermore, TSC has initiated a rigorous vetting process to select teachers who will serve as supervisors and invigilators for the 2023 national examinations. A total of 223,223 teachers have undergone this meticulous vetting procedure to assume these critical roles as supervisors and invigilators, while an additional 37,731 teachers will assume the responsibility of examiners.
Macharia acknowledged the monumental role teachers play in guiding and preparing students for significant national examinations. She lavished praise upon their tireless efforts in ensuring the integrity and success of these examinations, recognizing their indispensable contribution to the education system of Kenya.
