454 students who scored A to take course in medicine
A total of 454 students who received an A on the KCSE exam from the previous year have been chosen to pursue a degree in medicine and surgery.
According to information obtained by The Standard, pharmacy will admit 111 students, making it the course with the second-highest percentage of top students.
As the third most popular course, 90 students will be admitted to computer science.
61 students will enrol in architectural studies and architecture, 54 will enrol in civil engineering and structural engineering, and 52 will enrol in electrical and electronic engineering.
To fill the top 10 courses chosen by the A graders, dental surgery will accept 39 students, nursing will admit 34, clinical medicine will admit 33, and aeronautical engineering will admit 29 students.
26 of the top performances will be admitted to the Bachelor of Law and the Mechatronic Engineering programmes, while 21 of the top performers will be admitted to Mechanical Engineering.
The top students will also enrol in courses in nursing and public health (15), software engineering (10), quantity survey (5), bachelor of radiography (13), and biomedical engineering (with 4 students each).
In the national Form Four exams taken last year, 1,152 students received an A.
The new university finance scheme, proposed by President William Ruto in May and going into effect in September, would use these as its initial cohort.
The University of Nairobi will accept nearly half of the students who received an A. Of the 1,152 students who received As, 418 will be admitted to the institution.
The second-highest number, 264, will go to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Of the A-grade pupils, 151 will be admitted to Kenyatta University, followed by 71 at Moi University and 58 at Egerton University.

53 students will be admitted to Maseno University, 38 to Technical University Kenya (TUK), 22 to Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, and 38 to Kisii University. 15 will be accepted at Multimedia University.
Nine outstanding students will be admitted to Dedan Kimathi University of Science and Technology, while six students will attend University of Embu.
Two of the best students will be admitted to Technical University of Mombasa (TUM). The top KCSE performers will each have one student admitted to Meru University and Kibabii University.
A students preferred Uzima University and Mount Kenya University among the private universities.
According to the data, 21 students who received As would enrol at private universities the following month.
Twelve students who received As will be admitted to Uzima University and six to Mount Kenya University. Three students each attend Daystar University, Kenya Methodist University, and Kenya Highlands Evangelical University.
Since they applied for admission to private universities, these pupils will not be eligible for government subsidies or scholarships. However, they are eligible for government loans.
