Ezekiel Machogu, the secretary to the cabinet for education, revealed that 26,871 teachers are awaiting relocation to their home counties.

46,926 primary and secondary school teachers had declared their intent to transfer back to their home counties as of June 30. Only 20,055 of these requests were actually fulfilled, though.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for departing teachers by making sure that there are suitable replacements available at their current assignments and openings at their desired transfer stations, according to Cs. Machogu in a recent appearance before the Senate.

“This will make it possible for the commission to guarantee the fair distribution and best use of teachers across the nation for the benefit of all students. Already, the transfer policy has been changed. In answer to a question about the delocalization strategy from Senator Samson Cherargey of Nandi, Mr. Machogu declared that it was no longer in effect.

Machogu emphasised that, as required by Article 43 of the Constitution, the TSC must fairly distribute and maximise the efficacy of teachers within public primary education institutions to ensure that quality education is accessible throughout the nation.

An earlier TSC programme called delocalization had the goals of promoting national unity, removing any conflicts of interest in school administration, and addressing teacher shortages in particular areas.

The Cabinet Secretary made it clear that teachers who want to move must submit a formal transfer request, which is handled in accordance with the ideas of equitable distribution and effective personnel utilisation. Vacancies at the intended institution, replacement needs, current staffing standards, health-related issues, and other relevant TSC considerations are among the factors taken into account.

Before approving a teacher’s move to the county of their choice, Mr. Machogu stated that TSC makes sure there are acceptable openings, replacements, and a balanced staffing ratio. This preventative approach averts widespread teacher relocations that might disturb educational settings.

TSC has 35,959 transfer requests from teachers at the primary level. Unfortunately, only 17,942 transfers have been made possible, leaving 18,017 waiting because there aren’t many suitable replacements available. 10,967 teachers at post-primary schools requested transfers, but only 2,113 were approved.
