The Ministry of Education on Thursday announced that the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will be conducted early next year.
Speaking at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) headquarters during the release of the 2020 KCPE examination results, Magoha said that preparations are already underway.
“The Ministry will immediately start preparations to mount the 2021 KCPE and KCSE examinations, which will be administered early next year,” said Prof. Magoha.
School Reopening
The CS also announced that schools are scheduled to reopen for the third term on May 10, 2021, for all classes except Grade 4 and Form One.
“We are hopeful that we will open as scheduled although we continue monitoring the country’s COVID-19 situation and the schools’ preparedness to adhere to all Ministry of Health guidelines of managing the virus,” he stated.
KCSE marking is set to start in three weeks’ time.
And speaking on Friday at the Naivasha exam container, the CS said all security measures were in place ahead of the marking process. He noted that teachers involved in the process would be vaccinated against Covid-19.
“The government is keen to vaccinate all teachers, mainly those above 58 years, but we shall start with those involved in marking the exams,” said Magoha.
Despite the arrest of some examination officials for exam malpractices, Magoha said that teachers and security officers delivered on their mandate.
“We have had some unfortunate incidents where some teachers have posted the exam on social media, and we have identified them. Those who did well will be handsomely rewarded,” said Magoha.
On student transport for those who have completed their KCSE exam, Prof Magoha stated that transport arrangements are in place for candidates who will be traveling in and out of zoned areas.
“We have lockdown in five counties but we have made plans with security officers for the safe passage of all the candidates,” he said.
