18000 teachers to be trained on COVID-19 protocols.

In Summary

  • 18000 teachers to be trained on COVID-19 protocols.
  • Teachers to be trained on how to handle CBC learners
  • President Uhuru has ordered schools to reopen from January 4, 2021.

The Teachers Service Commission began the training of teachers yesterday. The training seeks to equip the teachers in lower classes with fresh skills particularly on how to handle learners in the wake of covid 19 pandemic in schools.

The 10-day teachers training will include both public schools and private school teachers.

"Due to the current situation the country is facing on the covid-19, we require to re-engineer the teachers training modalities observing all the ministry of health guidelines." Said the TSC Director of Quality Standards Dr Reuben Nthamburi.

County Regional Directors have been directed by TSC to ensure that at least teachers in Grade 1 and 2, Grade 4 and all primary school headteachers are included in the training.

TSC seeks to equip teachers with new skills of teaching whereby the arrangement of desks in classes is to change. Instead of learners facing each other in the sitting arrangement, learners will be facing the same direction in some subjects.

CBC classes for Mathematics in Grade 1 and 2 will not be as interactive as before. The Directive from TSC states that all the CBC training should involve Grade 4 teachers drawn from the Private Schools in all zones.

Teachers from Grade 1 and 2 should be invited during the CBC training from 21st to 22nd of December 2020. All learners are expected back to school on 4th January 2021 after the lost academic year.
