A cloud of profound sadness has enveloped Bande Girls Secondary School in Migori County. The cause of this sorrow is the tragic loss of a Form Three student who took her own life on a somber Sunday.

Local authorities have responded swiftly, initiating an inquiry into this heartbreaking incident involving a student from Bande Girls Secondary School in Migori County. This information was confirmed by Winnie Malemba, the local chief.

According to the police report, the 15-year-old girl had attended a church service on the school grounds with her peers on that fateful day. However, she left the service abruptly and was later discovered lifeless within a classroom.

The report further reveals that the young student left behind a poignant note, shedding light on the agonizing reason behind her desperate act: she had been enduring relentless bullying at the hands of one of the school’s prefects.

In response to this tragic event, the authorities have taken the step of transferring the student’s body to the mortuary at Migori’s level four hospital. Here, it will undergo an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation aimed at uncovering the full extent of the circumstances surrounding her untimely passing.

This deeply saddening incident follows closely on the heels of another harrowing suicide that took place in the same county just a week prior. In that heartbreaking event, a fourth-grade student took his own life within a classroom at Sare Primary School. This tragedy sent shockwaves throughout the community, emphasizing the dire need for enhanced mental health support services and awareness among students.
